About the Work

cha·os the·o·ry (n):
1. a theory that complex natural systems obey certain rules but are so sensitive that small initial changes can cause unexpected final effects, thus giving an impression of randomness;
2. a theory of physics and mathematics that describes random behavior of nonlinear dynamic systems because of an exponential growth of errors;
3. complex mathematics that explore how systems break down amidst order.

Chaos Theory is an interactive, kinetic installation with sound. By juxtaposing images of war, violence, pop culture, religious iconography and ecological and scientific themes, the work moves beyond the physical and material to the symbolic. Narratives question assumptions about duality as veils and multi-layered translucent fabric and images expose the illusion of separateness. Inside the installation's center, the viewer finds calm, the music of the breath and perhaps a way to transform external chaos into internal stability. Details suggest that though the world appears chaotic, a willingness to pick up subtle clues can lead to spiritual clarity.
